That's assuming of course that this is a successful move and that it does offer better value, there's no guarantee it'll take off and if it doesn't then it wouldn't look so smart following the herd.
I don't think it's better value and I don't think Sony's aim is offering better value, I think this is a machine they need to launch to support PSVR - whereas MS doesn't have a VR system - and is ultimately a cynical move.
They're kind of already 'in the dust' as far as sales go this time around.. it's unlikely that launching a .5 console is going to turn that around, especially if it's only after Sony does it first.
Totally agree, just double down on great games and let this play out however it does for Sony. What's there to lose?
A new Xbox in maybe two years, so say winter 2018, would be the best way to go in my opinion. That's a much shorter cycle than last time and would probably let them get out before Sony with proper next-gen hardware.
I don't see any scenario where Xbox One outsells PS4 - as far as that race goes it's over already. Microsoft won't be in it for extending the current generation since they're losing. Wait and see how the .5 move plays out for Sony.
How can they overtake Sony if they just keep following their rival's moves? I would love to see Microsoft dismiss the idea of an upgrade and just release a next gen system when the time is right.
Hopefully more games will be announced like Forza Horizon 3, Sunset Overdrive 2.. there's Sea of Thieves from Rare and Halo Wars 2. I really enjoyed Quantum Break so for me, this is shaping up to be the Xbox One's best year in terms of games.. delays could scupper that, but the outlook is good..
Yes, basically. It's no coincidence, the two new systems go hand-in-hand so if you're in for VR, you're in for both. Or in my case, neither.
Good to hear, excellent game and hopefully the start of a new core series on Xbox!
Sunset Overdrive 2 would be a nice announcement, even if it wasn't necessarily releasing this year.. also look forward to seeing Sea of Thieves and maybe a new game using an older RARE series?
Quantum Break and Sunset Overdrive were the two system sellers for me and I think both have lived up to their considerable hype.
They're not what I'd call true 'killer apps' though, far from it actually.. hard to even say what the last game in that category would be.
Maybe the best thing he could do is just focus on pumping out great games and getting the price of Xbox One down where possible.
I've genuinely no idea what to do on the PS4 front later this year, if these rumours are all true. Total mess.
We're not either, Phil.
What's in it for them, though?
Are we supposed to give him credit for 'taking the risk' of allowing the game to be reviewed in advance of it coming out? Load of crap.
Yeah, Move wasn't that great. As a pointer the Wiimote was arguably better - for waggle, well, waggle is waggle.
Both it and Kinect could have worked better, to be honest, but at least Kinect got big games designed exclusively around its functions, and from the likes of Lionhead, Harmonix, Rare, From Software, Sega etc.
We shall see how Move and PSVR pan out, but the prospect of using it for Rez is exciting.
It needed to be a killer-app AT LAUNCH, by the time it actually came out it needed to perform miracles..
Kinect was better in terms of a dedicated game library.
For all the perfectly fair complaints people can make about the system, Microsoft supported it full-on for three years or so .. and at the expense of controller-based games, it must also be said.
Kinect had so much potential and gave me some of my favourite games of the 360 era.
They had a chance to go all-out with it on Xbox One, but completely botched it in all sorts of ways.. culminating in Kinect Sports Rivals which is possibly the biggest flop in videogame history.
So do you think Sony will follow suit? Why wouldn't they?
Well that's a shame, though they clearly haven't been behind it for many years now.
